It’s easy to fly right into the heart of Tropical North Queensland. Fourteen domestic and international airlines service Cairns Airport – Qantas, Virgin Australia, Jetstar, Tigerair, Air New Zealand, Cathay Pacific, Hong Kong Airlines, Philippine Airlines, Air Niugini, SilkAir and Regional Express, as well as small local airlines Skytrans, Alliance Airlines and Airte North.

Direct flights arrive from Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide, Perth and Darwin, plus a number of major regional centres.

International destinations include Auckland, Port Moresby, Hong Kong, Tokyo, Osaka, Bali, Manila and Singapore. From here, you can connect with almost anywhere in the world.

Cairns Airport has two passenger terminals – T1 for international flights and T2 for domestic flights. It takes about 5-10 minutes to walk between the terminals along a covered path. Inside the terminals, you’ll find a selection of shops, with well-known brands like Victoria’s Secret and MAC, specialty stores featuring uniquely Australian products as well as surfwear, souvenirs and an extensive Duty-Free range. Grab a pre-flight drink at the Great Northern Brewery (in T2) or a snack at one of the many cafes and restaurants. There are also three airline lounges for eligible flyers to enjoy.

The airport is a 10-minute drive from the centre of Cairns. The Airport Connect bus links the airport with the Cairns public transport system from Sheridan Street. Shuttle buses are also available. Car rental booths are located in the Arrivals Halls in each terminal. Limousine, taxi and ride-booking services are also available.

– Local Transport Information –

Taxis

Taxis can be hailed or booked in advance by telephone (131 008). Black & White Taxi ranks are located immediately outside the International and Domestic Terminals. The taxi fare from the airport to Cairns CBD ranges from $15 – $20 depending on destination point. Taxis are also available from the main taxi rank in the City Place or along the Esplanade and in front of the reef Casino. 

Uber

Uber operates in Cairns, using the app you already know and love! Request a ride to and from the airport or around town at the tap of a button. 

Bus Services

Bus transfers are available from the airport and Cairns has a public bus system that services the city, suburbs and beaches.

Cairns Airport Transfer Services Bus shuttle regularly pick up and set down at most hotels and accommodation establishments. In addition to a public airport shuttle service, many hotels and motels have private transfer buses.

Australia Coach operates an airport shuttle service to the city (AUD$4.50 one way and between the domestic and international terminals (AUD$1 each). It picks up immediately in front of the arrival halls at both terminals.

Car Rental

Major car rental companies are at the airport, with desks inside both terminals. Many organisations also have offices in the city centre.
